Multitasking is all the rage. Isn’t that why we have our smartphones, pads, laptops and the latest apps to be efficient and effective? You know, you experience the Starbuck’s person taking your order with her headset, getting your order ready and ringing you up while being in conversation with the next customer. There’s no time for chit chat unless there’s no one behind you. But of course there’s someone behind you because we’ve bought into the illusion that Starbucks will power us through. In all due respect, I’m in a Hinsdale, IL. Starbucks after having taken a red eye from Seattle to Chicago so, I can’t really bite the hand that gives me caffeine do I?

Well, I do. Our brain functions best in wholeness. And that means when we aren’t diversifying our intent. I’m sure there’s research on the disastrous effects of mulitasking which has been the rage for the past two decades but it splinters ourself off in disastrous ways.

Chances are, if you are practicing mindfulness, you are heart centered on being a human being and have kindness and compassion for you and others. So I implore you, practice brain wholeness or mind-full-is. Storytelling is an example which has very deep routes into our brain function and goes all the way back when humans use to sit around the campfire telling stories. That’s how people communicated their culture and life’s lessons.

Give yourself an infusion of mindfulness by storytelling and practicing some of these simple lessons you can do. If you have someone who could benefit from whole brain function why don’t you try out:

Lesson One – Breathe more fully
Breathing is one of the best things we can do for ourselves. Breathe deep and bring the fresh oxygen into our lungs. Exhale to let go of the toxins. Make ourselves comfortable with our breathing. It’s free.It’s rejuvenating. It helps you to be you.

How many times do we hold our breath when we are concentrating and we don’t notice? Taking in the air is life-enhancing so don’t be afraid, get to know it!

Lessons Two – Balls

Balls are such an easy way to have fun. Get a simple ball which can be found in any store. You choose the size that best meets your needs. It is a lovely activity getting you connected to each other. You can also do this alone.

#1. Sit down at a comfortable distance from one another so that both of you can catch the ball with two hands. Decide on the times you are going to catch it. 5x’s. 10x’s. 25x’s. Work to increase how many times you catch it. Further the distance between you.

#2. Do the same activity but clap before you catch the ball. This ball playing is a great way to practice attention. It’s also a memory enhancer as you need to remember clapping before catching the ball. Laughing, forgiving dropped balls and having fun.

#3. Do the same thing but catch the ball with only your right hand. Decide on the times you both are going to catch it. 5x’s. 10x’s. 25x’s.Work to increase how many times you both catch it.

#4. Do the same thing but catch the ball with only your left hand. Decide on the times you are going to catch it. 5x’s. 10x’s. 25x’s.Work to increase how many times you both catch it.

#5 Stand up at a comfortable distance from one another so that you catch the ball with two hands. Decide on the times you are catching it. 5x’s. 10x’s. 25x’s. Work to increase how many times you catch it. Further the distance between you.

#6 Do the same activity but clap before you catch the ball. This lesson involves you as you need to remember clapping before catching the ball. Laughing, forgiving dropped balls and having fun.

#7. Go outside and throw the ball against the garage or brick wall or some durable exterior that isn’t near windows or doors to be broken and throw the ball against it and catch it. See how many times you can do this without dropping the ball.

#8. Go outside and throw the ball up in the air and catch it. See how many times you can do this without dropping the ball.

#9. Go outside and throw the ball down to the ground and catch it when it pops up. See how many times you can do this without dropping the ball.

#10. For this, you’ll need a smaller tennis-sized ball. Sit close enough to pass the ball to one another. The first person starts with the ball in his lefthand and gives it to his right hand. With his right hand, he passes it to the other person’s left hand. That person moves the ball from his left hand to his right hand. From his right hand passing it to the other person’s left hand and so on and so on until you don’t want to do it anymore.
