How do we know a memory is worth saving by Beth Lord www.bethlord.com

When something touches our heart, and it won’t let you go because it’s wrapped up in feelings, an event - a cause and effect that changed you and your life forever. We need to save our memories because they touch us and connect us to ourselves, to the world around us and have a context around the past, present, and future.

How do you save a memory? The best way is to record yourself as the memory is happening or shortly after that. You can always get back to the recording and listen to it, transcribe and edit it and put it in a document, slide-show or book for further ease of remembering a memory. But first, start recording your stories and have a particular folder designated for your voice recording memories. < Read More

Beyond

Grant and I made it a point to take in my birthday, my sixtieth year with joy. We took the ferry over from Edmonds to Kingston the same time I took it when I worked at Poulsbo Elementary.

We drove to Hansville, to Point No Point Lighthouse and watched the fishermen trying to catch salmon. We walked the beach and saw Seattle from a distance in the fog. I work intensely in creating and writing, managing and wearing many hats as a small business entrepreneur. How do I energize myself?

I go to one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants two to three times a week. I need a break, and it’s not too far to drive, and the traffic doesn’t suck to get there and back to my workspace in my home. This break is an improvement to me compulsively working in panic mode and feeling like there isn’t enough time during the day. We all feel like that right? I want time to work for me, so I make nourishment a priority. Novel concept right? Well, wh Read More

Solve The Problem

What’s The Problem?

Your future family and their kids knowing you after you’ve been long gone.

I went to pick Xavier up from Day Care yesterday. Wednesday afternoon is my Gramma time with him. I also had a presentation at my first retirement community  (yes, it went well) and I had books and a poster board of themes in the back seat.

I put Xavier in the car seat, and he said, “What’s That?” and pointed to a husband and wife book I had done a few years back. He didn’t wait for me to answer, he grabbed it and looked at it for a full four minutes before putting it down. He didn Read More
